Genesis 3:14-19
New International Version
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed(A) are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust(B)
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a](C) and hers;(D)
he will crush[b] your head,(E)
and you will strike his heel.”
16 To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.(F)
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.(G)”
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’(H)
“Cursed(I) is the ground(J) because of you;
through painful toil(K) you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.(L)
18 It will produce thorns and thistles(M) for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.(N)
19 By the sweat of your brow(O)
you will eat your food(P)
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”(Q)

Repent or Perish
13 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate(A) had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?(B) 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam(C) fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent,(D) you too will all perish.”
6 Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.(E) 7 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down!(F) Why should it use up the soil?’
8 “‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”
